【英語リスニング・チャレンジ #161】

本日は、Eat Sleep Dream English チャンネルさんからです。
動画のタイトルは、
"Learn English with Alexa (Amazon Echo) | How to ask questions"
「Alexa と英語を学ぶ | どのように質問するか」
です。
日本ではまだ未発売ですが、アマゾンから家庭向け『人工知能スピーカー』 'Echo' が発売されているのをご存知でしょうか。
iPhone に搭載されているのは 'Siri' ですが、このスピーカーに搭載されている音声アシスタントは、'Alexa' と言います。
今後人工知能がどんどん進化していくでしょうから、英語の会話練習が人工知能と気軽にできるようになるのは楽しみです。
今回はこの 'Alexa' を使って、Tom さんが、英語レッスンをしていますが、'Alexa' にする質問は、'Yes, No' で答えるものではなく、'Wh-' で質問して、何なのかを答えてもらうものです。
では、先ずは質問文の Wh- の語順の説明からです。
1) Word order for questions
「質問文の語順」
word order 「語順」
(Wh- question words)
when, where, who, why, what, which, それから how もです。
question word + auxiliary + subject + verb
「疑問詞＋助動詞＋主語＋動詞」
auxiliary /ɔːɡˈzɪliəri/
「助動詞」
▸ Where were you born?
「あなたはどこで生まれましたか？」
2) Subject questions
「主語を質問」
▸ Who sung the song Gangnam Style?
「ガンナムスタイルは誰が歌いましたか？」
Who = subject 「主語」
Gangnam Style = object 「目的語」
「主語」を尋ねる質問文には 'auxiliary' 「助動詞」は使われません。
▸ Which team won the 2014 world cup?
「２０１４年ワールドカップはどのチームが優勝しましたか？」
3) Object questions
「目的語を質問」
▸ Who is your favourite singer?
「あなたの好きな歌手は誰ですか？」
Who = object
My favorite singer is .....
4) Alexa に質問
■ Alexa, when were you born?
□ I was originally released on the sixth of November 2014?
■ Alexa, which football team won the 2014 world cup?
□ Germany national football team won the world cup in 2014.
■ What is the largest city in the world?
□ The largest city is Tokyo.
「トキヨ」って言ってますね。
■ What is the tallest building in the world?
□ The tallest building is Burj Kalifah.
■ Where is the Burj Khalifa?
□ The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai.
skyscraper /ˈskaɪˌskreɪpə/ 「超高層ビル」
■ How do you spell 'banana'?
■ How do you spell 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'?
'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' は、「素晴らしい、信じられない」という称賛の表現で、１９４０年代に作られ、'Mary Poppins' の映画で有名になったそうです。
■ What is the smallest country in the world?
□ The smallest UN recognised country is Vatican City.
5) 最後に
'Gangnam Style' の音楽を流しますが、その時に 'louder' と Alexa に言っています。
日本語では「音を大きく」と言いうので、'bigger' と思う方がいらっしゃると思いますが、'louder' と言います。
